The Ningaloo Whaleshark Festival 2014 will be held from May 22 – 25, in and around the town of Exmouth.
Community groups, artists, musicians, buskers, stallholders and volunteers who want to be involved should contact the committee now. The Ningaloo Whaleshark Festival highlights the community’s relationship with the annual visit of the whale shark.
The objective is to bring together government departments, business, industry and
community members to strengthen their relationships/connection, while enhancing the education and celebration of the whale shark and its annual visit to Ningaloo.
The festival aims at sharing and learning from each other’s experiences, present new advances in technology, ideas and research, and most importantly, to communicate these urgent issues through networking with one another.
All ages will enjoy the festival activities including a fun run, a float parade, bands, circus and fire show, kid’s beach games as well as art exhibitions.
Dr Brad Norman will give information on the whale shark and the photo ID program and Gulliver the giant whale shark will be on display. Other visiting scientists and research groups will also display their findings.
There will be an Opening Festival Gala at the Novotel Ningaloo Resort on the Friday night with Grace Barbe Afro-Kreol. Festivities will continue on Saturday at Talanjee Oval. Sunday is Family Day at Town Beach with plenty of beach games and night time entertainment. Fire juggling, live music and circus shows are all part of the festival program. There is the chance to swim with the whale sharks, the biggest fish in the world from April – July each year at Ningaloo.
Darren Cossill, general manager, Novotel Ningaloo Resort and the chairman of the
Whaleshark Festival committee said: “Thanks to the community’s continued support and our generous supporters we have re-established the festival as a successful annual event on the state calendar.
“We are calling on market stallholders to book and confirm their spots at the Festival,” he said.
Stall application forms should be returned to Phoenicia by Wednesday April 30. Application forms available here.
